Sampler : Lierse Kant

I'd like to make Lierse Kant (a kind of Tambour Lace) and started practice of basic stitches first of all.

I heard Lierse Kant is also called 'Lace from Lier', which is named after the Belgium city of Lier.
It's drawing of shaded objects with thicker and thinner lace thread on cotton tulle.

* Lier Lace Sampler *
Materials
Cotton Tulle : about 14 hpi (hexagons per inch)
DMC Cordonnet Spécial #60
DMC Cordonnet Spécial #40
Coron lace thread #120

Rose Insert : Aemilia Ars

I have finished a wonderful Aemilia Ars pattern which is on 'Piecework' by Interweave.
The article says that this design is taken from the original alter cloth that is made in Bologna, 1927.

* Rose Insert *
Materials
DMC Cordonnet Spécial #60
Pattern
'Piecework 2013 May/June' / Interweave

In addition to a rose that appears in many Aemilia Ars projects, this motif has thorny vines, leaves, and picots placed like a cross on spider webs that are I'd like to try from before.
I really enjoyed them and studied many things :)

Cotton hexagonal tulle
Cotton organdy
DMC Cordonnet Special #60
Egyptian Cotton #60/2
Beads, chain, metal parts

Beginner Kit : Carrickmacross Lace

I'd like to experience 'Carrickmacross Lace' which is a kind of Irish Lace, so tried this kit.

Appliqueing organdy and embroidering on tulle...
It's a technique to make soft and light lace :)

* Beginner Carrickmacross Kit *
Materials
Cotton hexagonal tulle
Cotton organdy
DMC Cordonnet Special #30
DMC Brillante D'Alsace #50
Egyptian Cotton #60/2 (not in the kit)
Size
About 8.5cm
Kit
'Beginner Carrickmacross Kit' by Snowgoose

It's a photo of cutting around appliqued organdy.
Miscutting tulle or sewing thread is critical so it is a little straining process.

Halloween Butterfly : Romanian Point Lace

Halloween will come soon and I made a Romanian Point Lace butterfly motif.

* Romanian Point Lace Butterfly *
Materials
DMC Cebelia #40
Tools
Hook : 0.75mm (#10 JPN)
Size
About 10cm width
Pattern
'Piecework 2001 Jan/Feb' / Interweave

The original pattern was so large that I used thinner thread than the suggested and shrink the size.
This pattern has six types of filling stitches and I filled them one by one with excitement :)

Triangular Ornament : Romanian Point Lace

Speaking of needle stitches, I also like Romanian Point Lace's so I made a small ornament.

* Romanian Point Lace Ornament *
Materials
Olympus Emmy Grande
Tools
Hook : 1.75mm (#0 JPN)
Size
About 10cm
Pattern
'Romanian Point Lace Ornament (4")' by Manitoba

I substituted Emmy Grande for the suggested DMC Cebelia #10 with a rough guess.
It seems a little thicker so I reduced the petal filling stitches.

It was my Romanian point Lace after a long time and I enjoyed the experience very much :)
Manitoba, thank you for a great tutorial!

and this is a clematis hairpin.

* Irish Flowers *
Materials
Anchor Mercer Crochet #80
Metal parts, beads
Tools
Hook : 0.50mm (#14 JPN)

I crocheted Christmas roses for this Christmas.

* Short Passages *
Materials
Anchor Mercer Crochet #80
Peps, beads, and metal parts

Grapevine Doily : Aemilia Ars

I have finished a mini doily with a grapevine motif.

* Grapevine Doily *
Materials
DMC Cordonnet Special #60
Cosmo linen fabric
Pattern
L'uva from 'Quaderni di Aemilia Ars. Frutti classici'

It's my first combimation of Aemilia Ars lace and fabric.

The suggested thread is #60 and the stitches became soft.

I'd like to have a lacy leaf and made filling stitches (Punto Chiaro) looser, but if more stiffness is needed it seems also good to make them tighter.
In spite of a little work, it's a great pattern full of Aemilia Ars techniques.

Candle Lights : Tatting Lace

I am making various sizes of 3D tatted marigolds bit by bit.

Now I'm planning to tat more, dye the flowers the color of the sun, and make accessories of them :)

3D Flower : Needle Lace

Finally I have finished a 3D Flower that I was into these days.

* 3D Flower Kanzashi *
Materials
Coron lace thread #120
Lizbeth #80
Artistic Wire #30
Tekno-rote, beads, metal parts
Pattern
3D Flower by Catherine Barley (Intermediate Instruction Booklet)
Leaves : on my own (tatting lace)

I don't have Brok or Egyptian Cotton No.100/3 that are used on the text, so I learned here and chose Coron lace thread #120.
I guessed maybe #160 was better because of the length and the weight, but now I think #120 is nice for this as seeing its Single Corded Brussels stitches and Four Diamond Holes.

And this time I tried thin Artistic Wire for beading instead of artificial flower wire.
It is delicate and seems good too.

I felt in love with this flower at first sight at Catherine's website, and now I am very happy to reach to the finish line.
It's time to have a tea break and I'm thinking about the next project with joy.

And I dyed the white petals and the pistil light green just a little.

I'd like to enjoy the rest of summer with this summer flower :)

* Four Petal Flower *
Pattern
Four petal flower (The Guild of Needle Laces' kit)

I enjoyed learning many things with this flower of sweet color-variegated thread and classic design.

Materials
Zweigart Edinburgh 36ct.
DMC cotton pearl #8, #12
Pattern
Biscornu -Puntaspilli

I could not find 38ct fabric, so I used 36ct one.
This pattern has drawn thread work, button hole, bullion and hem stitches etc. and it's so much fun.
The text was very detailed and guided me safely to my first Punto Antico.

Dear erba, thank you for sharing the wonderful pattern!

The Enclosed Garden : Tatting Lace

* Aemilia's Flower *
Materials
Daruma lace thread #80
Pattern
Dispensa Fiore
(The pattern seems to be deleted from the website now. 31 July 2015.)

Although an unfamiliar technique and thin thread troubled me, somehow I finally finished it.
But I made some mistakes early in the process...
The AemiliArs books and DVDs motated me and I'd like to make another flower with them.

Rhapsody in Blue : Stumpwork

I have finished a little stumpwork rose.

* Rhapsody in Blue *
Materials
DMC Cotton Embroidery Floss #25 (ART. 117)
Linen fabric
#30 wire for artificial flowers

I had been used tekno-rote for couching, but for this flower I used #30 wire to make a firm shape.
Metal wire is easy to bend as expected :)
I heard that Artistic Wire for wirework is used for stumpwork too, so I also would like to try it next time.

Aemilia's Flower : Needle Lace

Some days ago on twitter I found gorgeous Italian needle lace photos that I have been interested in from before and they excited me, so I have started to try.

A little flower with a technique named "Aemilia Ars".
I'm learning the recipe from this free pattern (pdf).
The text and the figures are both detailed and easy to understand even for me (I only have a really little experience of needle lace).
(The pattern seems to be deleted from the website now. 31 July 2015.)

Almost processes are buttonhole stitches on the lines and I guess it will take time.
It's unfamiliar to me so I would like to advance without haste :)

Raindrops : Tatting Lace
